What to expect: Change, Seasons and Rhyming Text
In Joshua Little and the Leaves, author Andrea Cluff has created an instant classic that will resonate with children and adults alike, particularly in these constantly changing times.
Young Joshua ventures outside one windy day to see that all the leaves are falling from his favorite tree. He’s upset but he comes up with a plan—he grabs his trusty glue stick and tries to put the leaves back on the tree. When that doesn’t work, he runs through a whole slew of supplies to try and get the leaves to stay on their tree. But nothing works. Joshua’s mom sees his distress and comes to the rescue—much like moms and dads everywhere—with a kind and soothing explanation. She helps Joshua see that changing one’s perspective can bring new light to even the darkest of days and that sharing simple joys can make the mundane special.
This beautifully illustrated and touching tale highlights the tenacity of young children, the importance of perspective and the strength of the bond between parent and child. The rhyming text has been carefully crafted and the illustrations warmly convey Joshua’s emotions as he learns that sometimes what seems like an end, can actually be a new beginning. Highly recommended.

About the Author
Andrea Cluff grew up in the rural woods of Southern Maine. With so much natural beauty surrounding her, it’s little wonder that she developed a keen love for nature and spending time outdoors. She also learned, from a young age, to love books and stories. Every morning of her childhood began with the whole family gathered together as her mother read aloud. And every family gathering was a chance to swap verbal stories back and forth between relatives. Consequently, it was quite natural for her to continue studying the art of language at college where she majored in English and Minored in German. Joshua Little and the Leaves is her first children’s book. Although Andrea enjoys many genres, children’s books will always be one of her favorites. She is quite sure she will never outgrow them.
