By Jethro Francois, for The Children’s Book Review
Published: May 16, 2011
While sitting in a Sunday school class, the preacher of the congregation approached Jethro Francois, asking him to finish teaching the kids their lesson for the day. He was not surprised to see how smart the children were by the way they answered some of the questions they were being asked. His love of children and his faith led him to write The Butterfly.
In The Butterfly, Valdee is a handsome, intelligent and polite young boy who is full of life. No one could have predicted that his life would take a turn for the worse when he suddenly became very ill. As he suffered, he could no longer live a normal life, and he started to feel that he was coming to the end of the road as his life became similar to that of a caterpillar. However, one day he met the Shepherd, who extended His loving care, and later became his Hero. Valdee’s life story became characterized by hope, faith, perseverance and restoration.
Francois’ purpose in this inspiring story is to teach kids to not ever give up hope due to life’s adversities, and that they too can find a Hero. Jethro Francois, originally from Haiti, is a poet and children’s book author. Literature has always been his passion. The Butterfly is his first book, and he prays that you are blessed by reading it.
