Sheila Brodhead has recently authored two middle-grade novels that revolve around the Salem witch hysteria of 1692.
MY WEIRD NEIGHBOR, A Tale of Mushrooms, Baseball, & Salem Witches—When eleven-year-old Jenkins is paired with mushroom-obsessed Clyde on a class science fair project, little does he know that Clyde’s goal in choosing the topic “Fungal Infestations & Molds in Early America” is to prove that his mother, hung for witchcraft in 1692, was not really a witch. Jenkins never suspects that Clyde is a 17th century Puritan until a calamity in a creepy museum and a startling discovery makes him realize the truth about his new friend.
WEIRD TRIP BACK TO SALEM (historical fiction set in 1692)—When he enters the creepy Salem graveyard, Jenkins has no idea he’s stepping into a whirlwind adventure full of witches, weird behavior, fungus, and an evil sheriff. Accompanied by his buddy Clyde, the boys set off to put an end to one of the strangest and most tragic events in 17th century America—the Salem witch trials.
