What to expect: Beginner Reader Book, Zombies, Baseball, Friendship, Determination
Here’s a book for Zombie fans and young readers that are not afraid of a little gore.
Zombie Steve loves to play baseball—it’s all he wants to do—but his good friend Zombie Dave reminds him that playing baseball with living kids is close to impossible. They will never let Steve play because living kids are scared of zombies. As Zombie Steve wanders through the night streets feeling down, he spots a girl zombie with the prettiest zombie eyes he has ever seen. Zombie Stacy, like all nice friends should, empowers Steve to go after want he wants. Together, along with Dave, they find a way to play baseball that just may make your eyeballs pop out!
“Zombie Steve’s jaw dropped … literally. It fell on the ground.”
Punctuated with loads of zombie humor, the story is written in a way that makes readers feel like it is being told just for them. The illustrations are a mix of watercolor, pen and ink, which bring a child-friendly quality to the story; and they always expand on the humor in the text. A detailed black-and-white map of the estate area that the Zombies reside in can be found in the end pages; it’s a fun touch and provides a bigger world for readers to expand upon while they ponder what the zombies will get up to next. Coming up next is Zombie Stacy: Junior Parks Department.
Zombie Steve, Baseball Player is a good choice for beginner readers that don’t mind a little spine-chilling humor oozing from the pages of their books. The series also makes a good pre-cursor to the famous Goosebumps chapter books from R.L. Stine.
