The Pout-Pout Fish (A New York Times Best Seller)
by Deborah Diesen (Author), Dan Hanna (Illustrator)
Reading level: Ages 4-6
Hardcover: 32 pages
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR) (March 18, 2008)
The Pout-Pout fish is a very ‘glum’ fellow with a well illustrated pout. Many of his ocean friends question his demeanor, to which he always responds with the same clever rhyme, explaining that it’s just the way he is and that he is destined to always have the “dreary wearies”. Or is he?
Well … you’ll have to read it to find out if it’s possible to turn a frown upside down. The brightly colored illustrations are great for keeping story-time attention, as is the skillful and witty rhyme. I really enjoyed the clever work of both Deborah Diesen and Dan Hanna – mood-enhancing for even the most sulky pre-schooler.
I really recommend taking a look at Dan Hanna’s book trailers …
