Natty Cat is a sweet little girl who likes to suck her thumb and play with her best friend Libby. But one day it hits her: can Natty Cat be something other than a princess? And if so, what? She’s not sure what path is right for her. These are pretty big questions for such a little girl, and this story sets a light tone for a serious subject.
Natty Cat starts by asking her family members and friends, and sure enough they tell her that she can be anything she wants. She can be a scientist, play sports, be a stay-at-home mom, invent new toys – the choices are endless. The key is hard work and determination, not sitting at home on your laurels. At the end of the story Natty Cat decides that she is going to dream big!
This is a cute book with a message that is just right for little girls. The story helps them imagine all of the possibilities about their lives, and outlines some great choices. Girls with diverse interests will enjoy that the options range from scientist to stay-at-home mom, and everything in between. The author doesn’t pass any judgment about which choice a girl makes, she just presents all sorts of options. The illustrations are cute and colorful, and little girls will find them engaging. Having women in each illustration performing different jobs is a great example to readers, and the diverse cast of characters from many different backgrounds is a welcome component in this endearing picture book. The rhyming prose is fun and light, and will help keep young readers rapt with attention.

Janet Farrar Byington was born and raised in a small Southern town nestled in a Northwest Georgia valley. To her, her purpose in life is to passionately inspire others to be strong and free. As a professional woman, mother, stepmother, and now grandmother to three precious boys and one precocious little girl, she especially wants to encourage all girls and women everywhere to find their passion and follow it wherever it may lead.
About the Illustrator
Cheryl Riner Hodge is an accomplished artist from Georgia whose principal medium is watercolor. She was born in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in Japan, England, New York, and South Carolina. She is a wife, a mother of one beautiful, bright, passionate daughter, and a grandmother of two—one amazing granddaughter and one fabulous grandson. She is a commissioned artist, and her favorite subjects include florals, portraits, pet portraits, historic buildings, and home portraits. Although her work can be found in many private and corporate collections, this is her first foray into children’s book publishing.
