What to Expect: Ghosts, family issues, grief, mystery
Things look pretty grim for Jamie after his dad passes away. His family moved to the little town of Black Creek, supposedly for a fresh start. Unfortunately, his sister is annoying, his mom is too busy with the move and her new job to worry about how he’s feeling, and Black Creek is … well … creepy. His nightmares are starting to get out of hand to make matters worse—they’re starting to feel worryingly real. Soon, Jamie finds himself tangled in a mystery, following clues left by a ghost and wishing he could go back to the days when boredom was his only problem.
The Ghostly Adventures of Jamie C. O’Hare: The Church Tower is a good old-fashioned ghost story in the best tradition of old-fashioned ghost stories. From a sleepy old historic town, past secrets, and a protagonist fighting grief and loneliness, the story has everything a reader needs for suspense and excitement. The main character is believable and sympathetic, and readers are sure to empathize with the everyday problems he faces besides the supernatural nightmares and ghosts. While the story is scary enough to keep the plot moving, it also ends on an uplifting note and is a reminder that sometimes change can be for the better.
The Ghostly Adventures of Jamie C. O’Hare: The Church Tower is a solid start to what looks like a fun new series.
