What to Expect: Pirates, adventure, courage, friendship, and history.
Port Royal is under attack, and it’s up to Captain Beauchamp and his team of brave sailors to save the Port—and the day—from the terrifying pirate Wellington, captain of the Dreaded Pirates Loss. Wellington and his crew are infamous for escaping capture and have tickled more naval captains to death than you can shake a fist at. However, he may have met his match in brave Captain Beauchamp! Through storms, battles, ferocious games of patty-cake, and unmapped territory, the courageous Captain and his men are determined to bring Wellington to justice. But will they succeed, or will the devious Wellington get the upper hand again—literally?
Everyone loves a good pirate adventure, and this chapter book is perfect for beginner readers. Short chapters are kept engaging with a fast pace and a whimsical sense of the ridiculous, adding a healthy dose of fun to the real history of piracy in the eighteenth-century Caribbean. A crew (or two) of diverse characters, immersive settings, and lots of action (much of it silly and in nature) make the story a lot of fun to read aloud. At the same time, some well-chosen vocabulary helps to stretch readers’ comprehension.
Captain Beauchamp is a delightfully fun adventure, perfect for newcomers to chapter-book reading and a strong start to a new series.
