What to Expect: Friendship, problem-solving, and positive thinking.
In this beautiful fairy tale, readers will learn about helping others and oneself.
When Lisbeth wakes up with her hair full of tangles and knots, her grandmother doesn’t only have the patience to untangle them. She also has an intriguing explanation for why Lisbeth’s hair got so tangled—it was the ladybugs! Lisbeth’s grandmother explains that when the ladybugs felt sad because of the rain, they decided to throw a magnificent party with food, music, dancing … and lovely party streamers made from Lisbeth’s hair! Unfortunately, ladybugs are not very tidy, and they do not clean up their mess when they are done. Lisbeth learns that sometimes, you must lend a hand when other people make a mess, and sometimes, it’s worth working to prevent a mess in the first place!
From Lisbeth’s ever-helpful, ever-wise grandmother to the colorful ladybug protagonists themselves, this story is filled with magical characters. Although they are not the most responsible creatures, the ladybugs are portrayed as joyful, illustrating the important lesson that mistakes do not define a person’s true nature, nor do they negate a person’s positive characteristics. The vibrant mixed-media artwork sings with light and color, adding to the fairy-tale atmosphere of the story and giving each insect a unique personality. The simple language is arranged in short paragraphs and emphasizes sensory description, helping young readers build more advanced literacy skills.
Lisbeth and the Littering Ladybugs is a delightful, magical story that imparts a crucial lesson about the importance of caring for others and oneself. It’s a story that will leave young readers and their parents or educators with a deeper understanding of responsibility and kindness.
