What to Expect: Animals, acceptance, adventure, and school.
Adi’s Animal Adventures is an instructional glimpse into what, for most readers, is likely to be an unfamiliar and exciting approach to learning.
Did you know there’s a school in Minnesota where the students look after more than 1,000 animals as part of their daily learning? If you don’t like getting your hands dirty, this is definitely not the school for you. Adi loves it, and they spend their days growing food to keep the animals healthy, cleaning cages and tanks, and helping the animals with grooming and exercise. No creature is too weird or repulsive for Adi and their classmates—from snakes and chinchillas to tortoises, bamboo sharks, and chameleons, they love them all. I bet you wish you went to Adi’s school!
Documenting the environment and curriculum of a real school in Minnesota, the story follows Adi, the non-binary main character, as they take care of the many different animals, accepting and celebrating each one for its uniqueness and beauty. Scattered throughout the volume are facts about the many animals and two find-and-search activities that help keep readers engaged and excited to turn the pages. Softly colored illustrations seem to glow from within, giving the creatures a magical air.
A lovely introduction to both natural history and inclusion, Adi’s Animal Adventures is a celebration of diversity in the natural world.
