What to Expect: Bullying, self-talk, racing, self-belief, and perseverance
Charlie the Cheetah would love to be a champion runner like his strong, fast dad. Sadly, Charlie doesn’t think he can ever achieve his dream because he is small and weak, and round. The other kids at school call him “Charlie the Chubby Cheetah,” their bullying makes him so sad that he doesn’t even try to practice racing. Then, one day, Charlie decides he’s had enough: he won’t let anyone—not even himself—bully him anymore! By talking kindly to himself, believing in his dreams, and working hard, Charlie becomes a brand-new Cheetah—Charlie the Champion!
Bullying and body shaming are real problems for many children today, and they can have a lasting impact on the children they affect. Charlie the Champion not only teaches readers that bullying is not ok but also models practical CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) techniques, such as self-talk and body posture, that readers can use to boost their self-confidence and silence their inner (and outer) critics. The endearing animal characters make the story fun and relatable, and bright digital illustrations add color and movement.
Charlie the Champion is a fun and instructive way to teach young readers how to stand up for themselves and follow their dreams.
