What to expect: Dads and humor
Little Lizzie has always loved her dad, but it seems like he is more interested in football than in paying attention to her. He makes the same embarrassing jokes over and over again, and calls her “Lizzie-poo” in front of her friends. He even fell asleep when she was trying to tell him about her moon project!
When Lizzie comes across an ad for a store selling everyone’s perfect Daddy, she decides it’s time to do a trade-in for a more compatible model. She packs her sleeping Daddy up in her wagon, and off they go.
At the store she finds a celebrity dad, a chef dad, and an astronaut dad – but they all seemed to have too much going on or are too weird to be a good dad for her. Finally she finds the clearance section filled to the brim with countless types of dads. She spins in her tutu, and the only dad to notice is her very own daddy. Lizzie realizes that her daddy was the perfect daddy all along, and they go home together, happy at last.
While many kids might dream of trading in their parents (or vice versa!), this charming book shows that the grass isn’t always greener in the other backyard. Perfect for snuggling up with before bedtime, or after a fight about attention, DADDY DEPOT delivers humor and sweetness in spades. The illustrations are lovely and bright, and the cartoonish characters are enticing and silly enough to pull off a trip to the Daddy Depot.
Highly recommended.
