Since he was little, Golbo the Spider has been warned to stay away from vacuum cleaners, but sometimes facing what we fear can be a great experience as he discovers in Faiz Kermani’s hilarious new book “Golbo the Spider’s Amazing Vacuum Cleaner Adventure.”
Alsace, France Month Date, 2014—Sometimes you have to face what you fear to find a place you can call home. Golbo the Spider quickly learns this lesson in Faiz Kermani’s new children’s book “Golbo the Spider’s Amazing Vacuum Cleaner Adventure” (ISBN: 9781291278750, Lulu, 2014).
From an early age, Golbo the Spider has been warned to stay away from evil and dangerous vacuum cleaners. After all, poor old Uncle Snotkrunch disappeared after being sucked up one while out for a stroll. So far, Golbo has been successful at dodging vacuum cleaners, but as winter approaches, he is having difficulty finding a warm place to live. The coziest places are human houses, but they are also rife with numerous spider-unfriendly hazards.
Suddenly, Golbo finds himself encountering a crazed, vacuum-wielding old lady, which then unexpectedly propels him into the greatest adventure of his life. The vacuum cleaner’s tremendous suction-power at first seems undefeatable, but Golbo’s determination to survive against all odds offers a glimmer of hope.
This delightful story was inspired by a real-life experience that author Faiz Kermani had. He states, “So how did this all come about? Well, my daughter is scared of spiders and is always asking me to get rid of the poor things. One day she asked me to deal with a tiny spider that had crawled far up the wall in our living room. I had no choice this time but to use the vacuum cleaner. I have to admit that I felt really guilty using it, but there was no other way of persuading the intruder to leave its comfortable spot. As I reluctantly aimed the nozzle at the wall, I began to wonder what would happen when the spider got sucked up into the vacuum cleaner…and suddenly the idea for a wacky story just popped into my head!”
This fifty-four page book is the perfect story for children ages 8 to 12 and the colorful and comical illustrations by Korey Scott will delight readers of all ages. Already parents and kids are raving about the book. Kimberly at Amazon says, “Kermani respects the intelligence of kids today by giving them a funny, quirky story with a full, clever narrative and delightful illustrations…a story that I think readers will return to again and again for a good giggle. A true delight.” And Evan Weldon, twelve-year-old reviewer for Reader Views says, “I would recommend ‘Golbo the Spider’s Amazing Vacuum Cleaner Adventure’ by Faiz Kermani to everyone! It was a great and enjoyable read that I could not put down until I finished.”
