Which vegetable goes best with jacket potatoes? What did the horse say when it fell? What do squirrels do in the rain? How do you make a band stand? What do you get when you cross Godzilla with a parrot? These and many more like them fill this joke book for old and young comedians alike. Not in a joking mood? There are also fun facts, like what a three-course dinner is, how to prevent brain freeze when eating ice cream, and whether ducks have teeth. From well-worn classics to some brand-new giggles, you can find some humor for any situation in this collection.
Joke books are a staple of the children’s literature genre, but not all joke books are as socially responsible as Giggles Galore. Alongside the jokes (which are hilariously silly), the volume contains a build-your-own joke activity for readers to practice their comedic skills—as well as their ELA skills. Most importantly, a reflection activity and story at the end of the book encourage readers to think about the power of laughter and humor to hurt people as well as uplift them. Discussion questions guide readers to use humor responsibly. Leen Roslan’s black-and-white cartoon illustrations are scattered throughout, adding a visual element to the humor.
Giggles Galore is a fun, funny, and responsible joke book, sure to bring a smile to every face.
