About the Author
One of three children and daughter of two educators, Susan has had many opportunities in her lifetime but one of the most challenging has been her adventure into children’s book authorship. “It’s not as easy as some would think,” Susan explained. “You have to know age appropriate vocabulary, relevant topics, how to stimulate learning and inspire critical thinking, and then wrap that all up into something entertaining as well. Not a task for the weak of spirit.”
Susan’s love of animals is key to most of her endeavors. She works at a zoo and never tires of observing and learning about the place animals have in our eco-systems, our world, and in our hearts. She’s an avid horse-woman, dog lover, and has a particular affinity towards prairie dogs and giraffes. Susan decided her books should revolve around conservation, information, education, as well as humor and laughter. Both children and adults enjoy her pithy poems, lyrical rhymes, and witty written word.
An avid gardener, stained glass artist, and Jack Russell Terrier fanatic, Susan spends most early mornings “In The Garden” and when she’s not writing, she’s either caring for and playing with her well trained and highly energetic dogs, creating mosaics and stained glass, reading, and teaching. She occasionally cleans the kitchen!
Susan lives in Arizona with her two Jack Russells, Dash and Zoom, and is well known for eating chocolate cake for breakfast.

About the Author-Illustrator
When she was a kid, Melissa dreamed of illustrating children’s books. She never, ever thought it would actually happen – and now she’s an award-winning illustrator with 50 books and counting! She wrote Pug Is Happy, and is also the co-author for Imara’s Tiara, for Pygmy Giraffe Publishing.
Melissa lives with her family on a dirt road near a small town in Michigan. Every day, she takes their dogs for two or three walks. She’d like to romp with an otter or hang with a sloth, but she’ll settle for cuddling with a fluffy poodle.
Besides being the main illustrator for Pygmy Giraffe, Melissa is also the author of the book Pug Is Happy, one of the board books launched in our toddler division last year.

When we all go to the zoo we love to see the giraffes ,monkeys and the lions at feeding time but the reason we go there is to see all the animals in the zoo. That is one of the first places we go when I go back to Ca and we go to see places the other place is the ocean which my oldest granddaughter loves she is three and grasping at so much it is neat to see all that the girls are learning!
