Risen is the third book in Michael Phillip Cash’s dramatic sci-fi trilogy, the Darracia Saga. The second book, Collision, which was filled with deception amongst the characters and took readers deeper into the solar system and the history of its inhabitant, set up this final installment to be filled with exciting action in all corners of the solar system. Fans of the series will not be disappointed.
With everyone and anyone that could possibly return peace to Darracia and its neighbors, imprisoned or considered dead, the evil Lothen appears to be completely in control of Darracia. The mood is solemn and heavy and almost everyone is feeling defeated. Hope is rare, but when it begins to shine through in a select few, those that seek peace begin to rally and the characters that readers have been rooting for since book one, Schism, truly rise. It is this key term of “rising” that drives this finale. Will they rise together? Will they rise in time?
The character development remains strong and the trait of strength amongst the female characters is dually noted. The complicated relational struggles between family members, lovers, and ranking men are certainly Cash’s strength. The many different struggles carry the story vividly forward and toward the final battle
Risen offers a well-rounded fantastical ending to a satisfyingly exciting sci-fi romp.
