What to Expect: Space, time travel, fantasy adventure, family, and bereavement.
Star Life Keepers is a fast-paced and exciting novel that blends fantasy, science fiction, and adventure into a story about courage, resilience, and teamwork.
After losing his hearing and his father, Jason would like nothing better than to go back in time and fix all the things that have gone wrong with his life. When he overhears a conversation revealing that his dead father might have unlocked the secret of time travel, it seems like he might get his chance—not just to change his own father’s fate but also that of his friend Elisa, whose father died in a motorcycle accident.
However, changing time isn’t easy—instead of traveling to the past, Jason, his sister, and Elisa accidentally end up in a parallel universe, where they must fight prehistoric monsters and dragons to save a warrior queen’s life—and all before the batteries of Jason’s hearing aids die.
Bukania and the Belacamber universe are beautifully imagined in rich detail, and readers will enjoy disentangling the differences between this parallel universe and our own. Jason and his friends are engaging and believable protagonists who conflict with each other just enough to emphasize the value that comes from working together.
Written by a grandfather and grandson team, a foreword and resource note at the beginning of the book offers readers a chance to learn their story and engage in their own shared family writing projects. Discussion prompts and activities at the end of the book provide further opportunities for engagement, making the story a great choice for classroom reading.
Star Life Keepers is a unique and exciting fusion of adventure genres with a captivating and thought-provoking storyline perfect for middle-grade readers.

About the Author
Rick Williams retired early from his career as a biotech executive to pursue his passion for writing additional scholarly American history books. However, his plans took an unexpected turn when his eight-year-old grandson suggested they collaborate on Dragons & Dinosaurs books. Under the guidance of a Disney author for story development and a preeminent kidlit editor for the manuscripts, Rick embarked on a new adventure.
Establishing Legacy KidLit Press, Rick tapped into a global network of talented illustrators, mapmakers, designers, and education specialists. Their collaborative effort bore fruit with the launch of Star Life Keepers in February 2024, which swiftly ascended to become one of Amazon’s top eBook releases for children in the categories of Space Exploration & Time Travel. The book is also available in paperback and hardcover editions.
Rick’s creative journey now extends to co-writing sci-fi/fantasy books with three other grandchildren, including sequels to the Dragon & Dinosaur Chronicles and the Global Fairy Academy series. Through the platform www.storymakingwithkids.com, Rick aims to provide support materials for parents, grandparents, and educators, including the upcoming Storymaking Dragon workbooks designed to foster creative writing both at home and in schools.
