What to Expect: Rhyming, travel adventures, and nursing.
Tales of a Traveling Nurse: Is This My Home? is a picture book that focuses on the work and adventures of traveling pediatric nurse Nanette.
Author and pediatric nurse, Sheri Sturniolo, does terrific work of using creative rhymes to highlight her job and each state she visits. Not only are readers provided insight into what a traveling pediatric nurse does, but they learn a little about each state visited in a fun and entertaining way. Well-known tourist attractions are spotlighted throughout, letting readers discover Central Park, the New York Yankees, and ice skating in New York City. In California, they’ll experience surfing, harbor seals, and the San Diego Zoo.
Shay Larby does a fantastic job illustrating this story and readers will be drawn in looking for the vignettes she has provided on each page. Each reading of the story offers the chance to see something new. One fun feature of the illustrations is the patients which Nurse Nanette tends. If you look closely, you can match the patients to which activity provided them with their “owies.”
Tales of a Traveling Nurse: Is This My Home? is an informative story you will want to keep on your bookshelf. Readers old and young will find this book very engaging and have so much fun poring over the artwork.
