What to expect: Humor, Rhymes, Appreciation
Parents and kids, get ready to laugh because this Mom has decided to run off and join a traveling show! While we may all completely understand Mom’s motivation, this adorable book gives kids an insight into what a circus running a household can be!
When the kids wake up and find the hilariously rhyming note from Mom informing them that she has run off to join the circus, they don’t pout. After all, there’s so much to be done, who would have time to pout? Make the bed, make breakfast, clean up breakfast, make dinner, clean up dinner, do all the stacks of dishes, wash the laundry, hang it up to dry on a high laundry line…You get the idea!
And while we see the kids take on their tasks with aplomb and good humor, we also see Mom at the circus juggling stacks of plates while balancing on a bouncy ball, flying through the air doing the splits, walking a high-wire – all skills she has perfected doing these same chores at home!
Everyone is relieved and overjoyed when Mom comes home, returning to an exhausted and much more grateful family. Their rhyming note of thanks to her at the end will be sure to warm some hearts in your home, and remind everyone how much parents and caregivers really do throughout the day to keep the household running!
With adorable stylized retro illustrations and hilarious situations, THE DAY MOM JOINED THE CIRCUS will be a favorite among kids and adults alike. Short enough to read before bed, and with a sweet and happy ending, this might be just the book of choice to read together after a long hard day of cleaning up and putting away. Author Sue Downing’s adorable characters and zany rhymes will keep everyone entertained!
