What to Expect: Magic, friendship, magical creatures, and adventure.
The third book in the Kit the Wizard series has all the elements that made the first two books sing: there are books, magical creatures, good friendships, and lots of adventure.
Things have not calmed down for Kit since finding out she’s a wizard. Having saved the dragon living under the library and dealt with the Scottish mermaids and lake monster, Kit’s powers and her confidence have definitely grown. Now, however, there’s going to be a new school library – and that means a new dragon to protect. Kit and her friends aren’t the only ones to be excited about all this new magical potential because some seriously bad wizards are resurfacing, ready to try and wreak havoc on the magical world again. Who can save the day this time? Kit the Wizard, of course!
Kit and her friends make for a diverse trio of protagonists in both culture and personality, and the text does a good job of helping readers see inside their heads. As well as being an exciting quest to save the world, the story also emphasizes teamwork, the power of literacy and books, and the idea that people can learn from their mistakes. The narrative is perfect for readers who are still getting to grips with chapter books, offering a roller-coaster magical story with simple language, short chapters, quirky black-and-white illustrations that support and break up the text, and lots of humor.
The Wizard in the Wood is an enjoyable and satisfying end to a wonderful, book-positive series.

About the Author
Louie Stowell started her career writing carefully researched books about space, Ancient Egypt, politics, and science but eventually lapsed into just making stuff up. She likes writing about dragons, wizards, vampires, fairies, monsters, and parallel worlds. She’s the author of the bestselling LOKI: A BAD GOD’s GUIDE series, about the Norse god Loki as a mortal child. She lives in London with her wife Karen, her dog Buffy, and a creepy puppet that is probably cursed.
