What to expect: Presidents, history, rhyme
This adorable board book will capture the hearts of children, as well as the presidential history-buff in your family!
Did you know that Abraham Lincoln was the tallest president, and the first ever to wear a beard? Or that Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first president in a wheelchair? With delightfully rhyming prose and fun illustrations, this little primer does a fantastic job of making history interesting even to the smallest readers. Parents might even learn something themselves along the way! The book covers ten of history’s most iconic presidents, including George Washington, John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama, giving a little snapshot and fun fact for each. The book is made of sturdy board-book construction, and the spine is striped white and red to make it easily recognizable on the bookshelf (and in the book pile that inevitably starts in the corner of a child’s bedroom). The cover is adorable. Who knew presidents could look so happy and carefree?
I really appreciated the colorful pictures that were lively and engaging. Some non-fiction books for children can read a bit slow, but the rhyming helped to keep interest, as well as the smart and adorable illustrations. This is a great book for a little one starting preschool, or as a gift for a child whose parents are big history buffs. What a way to introduce (bi-partisan) politics in a light-hearted and endearing manner! The book ends at Barack Obama, and asks the child if they will be the next President of the United States. Who knows, maybe a future president is reading this little board book right now!
Highly recommended.
